The Chulu East West Peak Climbing experience offers a challenging summit of the twin peaks. At an elevation of 6584 metres, these famous peaks are perfect for climbers with all levels of experience. The technical support offered by our experienced climbing guides and crew at Down to Earth Adventure makes for an adventure that is seamless in terms of logistics and planning, leaving the stress out of conquering the amazing challenge.
These peaks are part of the Manang Himal, which are quite rightly included in the larger Damodar Himal, the eastern limit of which runs south from Chako and Peak 6687 in a north-to-south direction along the Hunlung Khola, Nar Khola and Phu Khola. To the south it is bounded by the Marsyangdi Khola and the Mesokanta La. There is generally a lot of confusion with regard to the name and location of the Chulu peaks and what summit actually constitutes Chulu West and Chulu East. With several other summits that are part of the Chulu Massif close by, there exists some confusion with available trekking maps as to which of the peaks constitutes Chulu East and Chulu West peaks. For the sake of explanation, four summits can be included in the Chulu group, two of which are possible on the permit for Chulu West and two on the Chulu East permit.
The highest of these peaks, marked Chulu West (6584m)on the trekking maps, has a recorded altitude from at least two expeditions of nearer 6419m (20,997ft); this might more accurately be called Chulu Central. As a result many climbing parties have mistakenly climbed one of these peaks thinking it to be Chulu East or West. It is generally understood that with the permit to climb the East or West peak an attempt can be made to the nearby peak as well.
A climb of one or both of these peaks combined with Nepal's most famous Annapurna Circuit Trek make for a truly memorable and jaw-droppingly stunning Himalayan trekking and climbing adventure not to be missed!Chulu West 6419m:
The obvious approach to this peak branches out from the main trail to the Thorung La pass as we go past the village of Manang. Base Camp is established in a small valley to the North and from here the route follows an additional North-West crest that leads up to the main peak. An attempt to the peak and return has to be done in a single day as setting camp up on the slope above base camp is not easy and is best avoided in terms of safety and comfort to climbers.
Although the climbing expeditions do not require you to be an athlete, you must be fit and healthy before embarking on the expedition. Training and equipment for technical elements are provided. To roughly assess your fitness level, see that you can easily walk about 8 km gaining a height of 600m/2,000ft with a 8 t0 10kg rucksack in about 2-1/2 hours or less. Note that you should be able to follow the regime for several consecutive days
