Entering Manaslu is like stepping back in time as you follow an ancient salt-trading route that snakes along the sides of Budhi Gandaki, a tributary of the larger Gandaki before crossing Larkya Glacier and rapidly descending to connect with the Annapurna trail. There are two main ethnic groups inhabiting the Manaslu region: Tsum and Nubri. Of these, the Tsum have remained a relatively untouched traditional culture and can be best appreciated by including a visit to their secluded valley, one of the eight sacred valleys known as “beyuls” in the inner Himalayas and its century old Tibetan traditions, as part of your adventure… Incorporating a Tsum Valley diversion into your Manaslu circumnavigation adds an extra unique dimension that will leave you feeling spiritually fulfilled and re-connected with life’s simple pleasures.
These treks typically require you to do 6-7 hours each day over steep hilly terrain on usually rough trails but with no real extremes of weather. Treks in this category can include trekking to elevations of up to 5500m with daily ascends of around 400-700m.When trekking at higher altitudes, your body needs to adjust to lower levels of oxygen and this provides added physical challenge to the trek. It is important to be physically fit and to prepare your body by doing regular exercise prior to embarking on your trek. Previous hiking or camping experience is preferable.
