This trek is the ultimate adventure which allows you to experience the physical challenge of scaling three passes, all over 5300m as well as making it to Everest Base Camp (5357m) and soaking up impressive sunrise views of Everest from the summit of Kalapatthar (5545m). You will be blown away by the variety of scenery, especially the spectacular contrasts of seeing the dazzling, emerald gems that make up the world’s highest freshwater lake system: Gokyo Lakes against the backdrop of snowcapped mountains and Nepal’s largest glacier called Ngozumpa. The six largest lakes which are located between 4700m and 5000m will leave you humbled by their immense beauty and holy status amongst Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims. Overall, the Three High Passes Trek offers the ultimate in 8000m+ mountain viewing amongst a backdrop of traditional Sherpa culture and hospitality. You will be amazed by the rich heritage of the famous Tibetan monasteries of Pangboche and Tengboche and feel the protective energy of being presented a “khata” (Tibetan scarf) by the head Lamas. This is a physically challenging trek with countless rewards for your efforts.
These treks typically require you to do 6-7 hours each day over steep hilly terrain on usually rough trails but with no real extremes of weather. Treks in this category can include trekking to elevations of up to 5500m with daily ascends of around 400-700m.When trekking at higher altitudes, your body needs to adjust to lower levels of oxygen and this provides added physical challenge to the trek. It is important to be physically fit and to prepare your body by doing regular exercise prior to embarking on your trek. Previous hiking or camping experience is preferable.
