Mera Peak Volunteer Expedition

This is Nepal’s highest trekking peak in the Himalayas - Mera Peak lies on the edge of the famous Khumbu Region. This peak offers astonishing views of the Himalayan Vista. Whilst technically straightforward, this trip has often been visited along the Makalu Barun National Park passing through bamboo and colorful Rhododendron forest which is an ultimate for those with a good level of fitness, moderate mountaineering experience and a keen sense of adventure. The interesting fact is that this trip also fascinates with brilliant views of Mt. Everest along with the other grand peaks that include Cho Oyu at (8210m), Lhotse at (8516m) and Makalu at (8463m) on a sparkling blue sky clear day.

This is a challenging and memorable adventure on a high and wild route. Starting with a dramatic and scenic short flight to a remote mountain airstrip you’ll begin your trek through beautiful trails and at times challenging Himalayan landscapes. Climb to the summit of Mera, one of Nepal’s highest trekking peaks.

Journey across fluctuating elevations as you descend into the wilderness of the Hinku valley and past sacred lakes to enjoy breathtaking views that make this journey well worth the effort. Combine easy non-technical climbing and strenuous trekking through striking landscapes and over high Himalayan Mountains as you make a beeline above the timberline on the way for summit...this is an exciting voluntary trek where you get to visit mountain schools and observe how kids study in these harsh conditions. The odyssey also opens up to a lot of culture as we get to interact with the local people and learn about Himalayan traditions and their religious beliefs. This is simply a wonderful trip with an unforgettable experience.

Difficulty level

These treks typically require you to do 6-7 hours each day over steep hilly terrain on usually rough trails but with no real extremes of weather. Treks in this category can include trekking to elevations of up to 5500m with daily ascends of around 400-700m.When trekking at higher altitudes, your body needs to adjust to lower levels of oxygen and this provides added physical challenge to the trek. It is important to be physically fit and to prepare your body by doing regular exercise prior to embarking on your trek. Previous hiking or camping experience is preferable.

Peak Climbing and Expedition

Although the climbing expeditions do not require you to be an athlete, you must be fit and healthy before embarking on the expedition. Training and equipment for technical elements are provided. To roughly assess your fitness level, see that you can easily walk about 8 km gaining a height of 600m/2,000ft with a 8 t0 10kg rucksack in about 2-1/2 hours or less. Note that you should be able to follow the regime for several consecutive days
